Joel Rafael Live: KPFK FM - 90.7 Woody Guthrie Centennial Day - July 14th

Woody Guthrie wrote songs that became not only the sound-track of an era, but permanent fixtures of our American Identity. Guthrie's more than 3,000 songs covering countless subjects and appealing to all ages represented the pulse of hard-hit people in times of economic depression and war.

On Saturday July 14th, KPFK 90.7FM - Los Angeles celebrates Woody Guthrie's 100th Birthday with special programming from 12 Noon to 6pm.

Mary Katherine Aldin and Mark Humphrey will begin our Woody Guthrie Special when they celebrate the roots and enduring influence of Woody Guthrie's musical legacy from 12-2pm featuring an interview with Woody's grandaughter Sarah Lee Guthrie.

At 2pm Global Village host Betto Arcos welcomes legendary guitarist Ry Cooder for an hour honoring Woody's Dust Bowl Ballads and his life in Los Angeles.

The Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebration continues on KPFK until 6pm with special guests including singer-songwriter Joel Rafael and Robert Santelli author of the book "This Land Is Your Land: Woody Guthrie and the Journey of An American Folksong" live from "Woodyfest" in Okemeh Oklahoma, Woody's birthplace...
